Ethnobotany of Mlabri Tribe Case study: Wild Yams at Khun Nam Sanien-Huay Loo Learning Centre, Muang District, Nan Province

Abstract
Ethnobotanic study of wild yams and preliminary utilization of Mlabri tribe in Nan Province were carried out for species identification, botanical characters and usages of wild yams found in natural forest at Khun Nam Sanien-Huay Loo Learning Centre, Muang District, Nan Province. The study was conducted by surveyed and collected plant specimens from October 2014 to July 2016. There were 7 species of wild yams enumerated from the study area. All specimens were classified by Mlabri’s knowledge and experience as 5 species are edible i.e. Dioscorea alata L., D. decipiens Hook.f., D. glabra Roxb., D. hamiltonii Hook.f. and D. wallichii Hook.f., and inedible 2 species i.e. D. bulbifera L. and D. pentaphylla L.. Most utilization of their tubers were eaten after cooked by fire or boiled with water in bamboo stem.
