People Participation in Solid Waste Management, Pakchong Municipality, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

This objective of this study was to determine the socio – economic status, the level of people’s participation as well the factors effecting participation of people in solid waste management at Pakchong municipality, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The study was compiled by questionnaires to interview the people who living in 23 of Pakchong communities. The total numbers of households sample were 389 households and data analysis were test by t-test and F-test with statistical significance level at 95%.

The results showed that most sample population was female (58.87%) with their average ages between 46-55 years (29.31%) and with married status (55.27%). The members of each household are less than five peoples (68.38%) and without status or social positions (75.32%). Most of sample population educations were finished bachelor degree (34.19%). Trading is their major occupation and the monthly incomes were of over 20,000 baht. The residential type is mostly their homes. No problems with disposing of solid waste from households were observed, 80.72%. The level of samples knowledge about the environmental effects caused by waste disposal site was moderate and the level of people participation with solid waste management was moderate (x̅ = 2.69).

Testing the hypothesis, it has been found that factors including age, marital status, household members, socials status, occupation, income and type of housing are affecting the people participation in solid waste management, Pakchong municipality, Nakhon Ratchasima province and are acceptable according to our hypothesis.
