Factors Affecting People Participation in Mangrove Forest Resource Conservation at Sraboa Beach Area, Tha Sala Sub-district, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study socio-economic characteristics, participation level and factors affecting people participation in mangrove forest resource conservation at Sraboa Beach area, Tha Sala sub-district, Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Questionnaires were designed for data collection and distributed to about 381 from totally 8,203 households that covered Tha Sala sub-district during June to July 2013. The statistical analysis methods were frequency, percentage, means, t-test, F-test and compare different ways a pair by LSD statistical with significance level on 0.05.


The results found that majority of the samples were male 61.90 % with average age of 46.36 years. Most of them completed primary school 58.00 %, household chiefs 63.00 %. The average number of household member was 5.94, and worked as employee 39.90 %, the average net income per month was 8,518.37 baht. Most of people were lived at hometown average 30.99 years. But the most samples never been conservation groups 92.40 % and have never attend training about environmental conservation 74.80 %, the samples group received news and the information about mangrove forest resource with a quiet low, the average 0.43, but they could comprehend and understood in medium level, with the average 16.98 and participation in mangrove forest resource conservation in medium level, with the average 2.83. Hypothesis testing, age, number of household member, occupation, net income per month, duration of the resettlement, comprehension and understanding about mangrove forest resource conservation were factors affecting people participation in mangrove forest resource conservation at Sraboa Beach area, Tha Sala sub-district, Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province with significant level on 0.05.
