Production and Marketing of Teak Products at Namcham Sub-district, Sung Men District, Phrae Province

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to investigate the production, marketing, and market structure of the teak products in Namcham sub-district, Sung Men district, Phrae province.  The using data was collected by employing the designed questionnaires interviewed 253 entrepreneurs of wood factories. The analytical statistics methods used for the data analysis were frequency, percent, maximum, minimum and mean. The results indicated the main occupation of entrepreneurs were to made the teak products about 63.24 percent, the average age of the wood factories operation was 11 years, 75.10 percent of such factories were cottage industry. The total using raw material was 41,570 m3 per annum, that was used in the form of lumber, waste and slap of teak. The production problems were lacking of capital and labor as well as the high of raw material price. The total teak product types was 45 which 1,391,376 pieces per annum, this included 29 types which made of teak lumber and 16 types which made of waste and slab of teak. The market structure of teak products was oligopoly. The products were differentiated from each other by carving design. The new comer could easily entering into the business because of the capital needed for the investment was rather low. The relevant marketing problems were scarcity of product, cut prices among sellers and lack of knowledge in the promotion.
