Development of Interpretive Programme for Bicycle Route at Bang Kachao, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop an interpretive programme for bicycle route at Bang Kachao, Samut Prakan Province by surveying physical characteristics of the existing bicycle route and studying bicyclist’s opinions. Data was collected from bicyclists at Bang Kachao by questionnaire survey of 308 samples and analysed by descriptive statistics to determine the appropriate interpretive stations, develop contents, and design the media for bicycle route.


The results showed that most bicyclists were male with age between 26-45 years with a Bachelor degree. They mostly lived in Bangkok and brought their own bicycles. During bicycling at Bang Kachao they received very few information about the sites and attractions along the route. Most bicyclists wanted interpretive programme developed on the bicycle route so that more knowledge and enjoyment can be obtained. The interpretive programme should give interesting information on attractive sites along bicycle route. The media they preferred was the neck strap - interpretive leaflets. They also suggested the improvement of facilities along the route. The interpretive programme was designed for the bicycle route covering distance 20.7 kilometers with time spent 2-3 hours. The route passes 10 interpretive stations including Bang Nam Phueng market, Suan Si Nakhon Khuean Khan, and Chaloem Phrakiat Park. The interpretive theme was “Bang Kachao with diverse dimensions of unique and outstanding natural, local way of life, tradition, and cultural values among the civilization of surrounding urban”.
