Abstract

The objectives of this research were; firstly to explore the natural recreation resources in Amphoe Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao Province, secondly, to select the prominent natural recreation activities, and thirdly, to assess the selected natural recreation resources at activity level. Field survey and group discussion of 20 key informants were used for suggestion and given prioritize the prominent activities and natural recreation sites in the study area. The Delphi technique was applied for assessing the selected natural recreation sites by inquiring 22 tourism experts to develop suitable potential indicators with a total of 29-30 indicators per site. Questionnaires were used to assess the recreation resource potential, by inquiring 9 persons of tourism experts and representatives of local administrative organization. The weighting score equation was used to assess level of recreation resources potential.

The results reflected that there were three prominent natural recreation activities including, sailing, bird watching and mangrove forest observing, and three of the four natural recreation sites gained the “high” potential score for the recreation resources potential rating, e.g. sailing and watching dolphin in Bang Pakong estuary area, mangrove forest observing in Thakam Natural Island, and bird watching in Thakam Natural Island. The other one site, the mangrove forest observing in Bang Pakong Borvornwittayayon School gained “moderate” potential score. Therefore, the recreation resource development in this study site should start with the site that gain potential high score, and should focus on improving the tourist facilities, setting prevented measures of environmental impact and creating tourism route connection among the tourism sites. These suggestions make the recreation resources more attractive to the tourist.
