Abstract

The objectives of the study were to determine the condition of the forest resources through project situation analysis for setting up strategies and appropriate activities which will be the significant factors affecting effective administration of the Tabtim Siam 08 Project, Sa Kaeo province.  Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was employed as a technique for data collection involving interviews, focus group meetings with multi-stakeholders and forest inventory as the selected tools.  Data analysis was conducted based on science, social science and relevant statistical methods such as forest health and an analysis of strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) through establishing the implementing strategy.

The results of the study indicated that there were 37 tree species found in the study area while Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Peltophorum dasyrachis, Albizia lebbek, Azadirachta indica var.siamensis and Leucaena luecocephala were classified as the dominant species.  Based on the SWOT analysis, Tabtim Siam 08 should setup alternative strategies namely local knowledge collection and to develop a database system for organizational structural reform as well as basic facility improvement to serve appropriate activities e.g. responding to the Royal Forest Rehabilitation Project, promote additional occupations and virtue and morality, and create participatory people’s awareness of natural resource conservation in order to achieve the goal of project sustainability.
