Role of High School Students in Environmental Quality Rehabilitation Case Study at Surasakmontree School

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to determine the socio-economic condition and role of high school students in a case study at Surasakmontree School in the rehabilitation of environmental quality. The study employed a multistage random sampling method and used an interview with a designed questionnaire as the main data gathering tool. An F-test and t-test were employed for testing the differences among the means of the role of environment rehabilitation and socioeconomic variables divided into 3 groups and 2 groups, respectively. The significance level was fixed at 0.05 by the statistical software package.


            The results of the study indicated that most of the respondents were female (61.40%), the domicile of most (69.30%) was in Bangkok and the homesteads of most (54.50%) were surrounded by concrete construction.  The average daily personal expenditure (38.60%) ranged from 101 to 150 baht, the parents’ occupation of most respondents (43.60%) was engaged in personal enterprises, most respondents travelled to school by bus (57.40%) and received benefits from the environment from the macro point of view at a high level.  Moreover, the high school students had comprehension and understanding about environmental conservation at a high level and they played a role in environmental quality rehabilitation at a high level, which had an average score of 3.92.  The socio-economic factors affecting the high school student’s role in environmental quality rehabilitation were: occupation of parents, condition of student’s homestead, comprehension and understanding about environmental conservation, receiving environmental information and outside school experience in participation activities relevant to environmental quality rehabilitation.
