Factors Affecting People’s Opinions on Forest Resource Conservation Surrounding Khao Khiao-Khao Chom Phu Wildlife Sanctuary, Chonburi Province

Abstract
The objectives of the study were to determine the socio-economic condition, general information, opinion level and factors affecting people’s opinions on forest resource conservation surrounding Khao Khiao-Khao Chom Phu Wildlife Sanctuary, Chonburi province. Data were collected by employing a designed questionnaire with 302 respondents. The obtained data were analyzed and represented in term of the statistical values of percentage, mean, minimum, maximum and testing the setting hypothesis by employing t-test and F-test analysis with the given significance level of 0.05.
The results of the study indicated that most respondents were male (70.50%) with an average age of 41.30 years. Their educational level was to the primary school level. Most respondents were born in the present area and their average resettled period was 30.50 years. The average number of household members was 4.3. The main occupation of most respondents was casual labor with no subsidiary occupation. The average annual household income and expenditure were 159,818.10 and 133,062.50 baht, respectively. The average size of land holding was 4.60 rai. Most respondents had never received relevant conservation information (84.80%) and had never attended any training courses (86.80%) about forest resource conservation. Their knowledge about forest resource conservation was at a high level.
Factors affecting the opinions on forest resource conservation were the educational level, forest resource conservation training course attendance and knowledge about forest resource conservation. Hence, the related government agencies should arrange relevant training courses to provide the information that can lead to increased understanding by the people in the target group about the significance of forest resource conservation. Finally, people’s awareness of forest resource values as well as participation levels in forest resource conservation would be raised.
