Abstract

The Diversity of Highland Bamboos project was carried out by using classical herbarium techniques. Both cultivated and natural existing species in 37 sites of the Royal Project were surveyed and herbarium specimens were collected and identified. Forty bamboo species are found. The existing genera are Bambusa (13 spp.), Dendrocalamus (10 spp.), Phyllostachys (6 spp.), Cephalostachyum (2 spp.), Thyrsostachys (2 spp.). Only 1 species was found in the following genera; i.e. Arundinaria, Chimonobambusa, Gigantochloa, Melocalamus, Otatea, Pseudosasa and Schizostachyum. One native species, Dendrocalamus copelandii, was considered as a newly recorded for Thailand.
