INSECT PEST INVENTORY AND MONITORING OF EXOTIC PLANTS AT DOI ANGKHANG, CHIANG MAI PROVINCE

Abstract

Insect pest inventory and monitoring of exotic plants were carried out at Doi Angkhang. Changwat Chiang Mai during 1988 to 1997. The main purpose was to know forest insect pest species damaged exotic plant species types of damages and levels of damages. Forest insects of fast growth exotic plant species were surveyed. The results showed that six exotic plant species namely Liquidambar formosana, Acacia confuse, Cinnamomum camphora, Fraxinus griffithii, Paulonia taiwanniana and Dendrocalamus latiflorus were damaged. There were 15 species to damage exotic plants. The first and heavy damage of exotic plant species was L. formosana (7 species). In every year Parasa sp. was the most important species causing damage. Five types of damages were classified they were leaf eating bark eating and stem boring inner-bark and stem boring bamboo shoot boring and bamboo sap sucking. Leal eating (10 species) was the most serious types of damages. Most of damages were during the middle of rainy season.
