Abstract

The study is aimed at investigating the quantity of bamboo caterpillar in natural forest, and its marketing in upper part of the northern region. The study found that the average number of clumps and calms of bamboo per rai were 28.67, and 511.67 respectively, and the average number of bamboo caterpillars per calm was 116.46. In 1997 the total production of bamboo caterpillar was 1,748.151 kilograms whereas, with the fluctuated price of collectors which ranging from 70 to 200 baht per kilogram. There are 3 selling products types of bamboo caterpillar, namely living, boiled and fried ones, with their prices: 170 - 250, 120 - 400 and 400 - 1,200 baht / kilogram respectively. The total domestic consumption of bamboo caterpillar in this area was about 63,842 kilograms.
