Abstract

The study is aimed at investigating the production and marketing of eucalypt timber in Northeast Thailand. The study indicate that most plantations are privately owned by farmers. The most common practice in plantation establishment is monoculture with 5-year felling cycles. Eucalypt timber are used in chip, pulp, charcoal making and furniture industries. Log prices are determined by bargaining between the middlemen and the farmers. There are 3 selling categories : price by area (2981.60 Bath per rai), price by weight (498.30 Bath per ton) and price per stem (36.55 Bath per stem). The middleman play an important role in marketing system of Eucalypt timber, starting form plantation establishment to wood-based industries.
