Abstract

The bamboo caterpillar was found on Dendrocalamas membranaceus at Doi Angkhang, Amphoe Fang. Changwat Chiang Mai during September 1991 to August 1992. The caterpillar bored in the internode of the young bamboo and fed on tissues inside bollowculm. They were found abundance during September to December, about 153 larvae per culm. The lifecycle would take about 330-365 days and it was found only one generation a year. Scientific name fo bamboo caterpillar was Omphisa sp. Besides the pest, the larvae was become a popular and important edible insect in northem Thailand.
