Abstract

Results showed that photosynthesis and respiration increased as temperature and irradiance increased. The optimum temperature and irradiance for net photosynthesis of A. mangium were found to be 24° C and 500 μmol/m2/s respectively. Net photosynthesis rate was somehow 3-10 times greater than photorespiration rate. Gas exchange characteristics of 10-month-old Acacia mangium seedlings was studied under laboratory condition. Twenty-four seedlings were randomly sampled from six provenances. Net photosynthesis, dark respiration and CO2 compensation point were measured by using URAS II. Photorespiration and total photosynthesis rate were thereafter calculated. Significant negative correlation of net photosynthesis and total dry weight of A. mangium seedlings was found. Respiration rate was however showed no significant correlation with total dry weight.
