Abstract
This research aims to study the settlement behavior of the soil improved by prefabricated vertical drain (PVD). The settlement analyzed by using Barron method, Inflection point method and finite element method were compared. The construction of runway of Suvarnabhumi Airport is used as case study. The results show that the settlement behaviors that calculated by all methods are according with field settlement. Barron method is the most simple since a few effects are taken to account. The Inflection point method is the most suitable for settlement analysis, but it is more difficult to calculate. By finite element method, the settlement occurs faster than the field settlement. The disadvantage of this method is the need of complex parameters of soil, but the advantage are the behavior of settlement at any point in soft clay and behavior of excess pore water pressure can be studied.
