Abstract

The effects of temperature and soaking duration during hydropriming on the vigor of cucumber seed were studied in order to enhance the speed of germination and uniformity. The experiment was arranged in 3 × 4 factorial in CRD compared with non-primed seeds as control. Factor A was soaking seeds in reverse osmosis water at 20, 25, and 30 ºC. Factor B was soaking duration for 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours. Seeds were then dried until moisture content about 7 %. The results showed that hydroprimed seeds at 20 ºC for 24 hours had the days to emergence and mean germination time faster than non-primed seeds, which had the highest germination and were not significantly different from non-primed seeds. Furthermore, hydroprimed seeds at 25 and 30 ºC for 36 and 48 hours had pre-germinated during soaking in water, which was not suitable for seed priming.
