Abstract

A study on correlation and regression between size and weight of suckers of 'Leb Mue Nang' banana for use as guidance for estimate weight of suckers from height and circumference of suckers was done by selected 10 mats of banana, each mat had 8-10 suckers for the experiment. The data from each sucker such as height above the ground, circumference at 15 cm above the ground, total weight of suckers and weight of corms, weight of suckers when cut off at 60 cm above the ground were collected. All the data were analyzed for correlation, linear regression and stepwise regression. The result showed high correlation between each comparison with r value = 0.9307, 0.9689, 0.9010, 0.9396, 0.8286 and 0.8135 respectively and Y equation of linear regression were Y = - 2.2679 + 0.2373 X, Y = - 2.0650 + 0.1952 X, Y = - 0.5256 + 0.0810 X, and Y= - 1.5380 + 0.0421 X respectively. The stepwise regression gave better result which Y equation were Y1 = 0.2892 + 0.0037 X12 - 0.0080 X2 + 0.0001 X22, Y2= - 2.1142 + 0.2231 X1 - 0.0053 X2 and Y3 = - 0.3445 + 0.0881 X1 + 0.0007 X12 - 0.0069 X2 when X1 are circumference of suckers at 15 cm above the ground, X2 are height of suckers above the ground, Y1 are weight of suckers, Y2 are weight of suckers when cut off at 60 cm above the ground, and Y3 are weight of corms.
