Studies on Behavior of Pla chon (Ophicephalus striatus Bloch.)
Abstract
Pla Chon (Ophieephalus striatus) Bloch.is one of the most well known freshwater fish used for food in Thailand. It is a carnivorous fish that is abundantly found in rivers, lakes, and canals. Although the development of embroyo and the growth of Pla Chon have been studied by several research workers, no report on its very interesting social, reproductive, and feeding behaviors has been found by the authors. To gain some insight of these behaviors of Pal Chon, fly were caught at the age of about ten days from hatching reared in aquarium for about five months. Their behaviors were observed for two hours every day. During this period the non-preproductive behavioral displays, were carefully recorded and then divided into several was given to each category such as feeding and agonistic behaviors. A name was given to each pattern of behavior in each category.
