Abstract

This research is to design a liquid crytal display (LCD) driver circuit for displaying 20*8 dot-matrix Thai and English characters as well as the Arabic numerals. The design is composed of 2 main parts, namely, character generator and driver-controller circuit. The data of all characters have been stored in a 8 kbytes EPROM. Designed circuit has been tested by connecting with standard CMOS ICs and implementing with FPGA chip (XC3020). In the stage of FPGA implementation. OrCAD SDT & VST 386+ running on PC have been used as schematic design entry and simulation tools, respectively. Both electrical and physical testings have been done. The electrical testing results show a good agreement with our design and also LCD illustrates a well Thai character display.
