Abstract

Ectoparasites were collected from 444 adult domestic bantams (age 1-2 years, 245 males and 199 females) from 3 provinces in the central region of Thailand in 1992. Prevalence and percentage of the identified ectoparasites occurring in adult bantams were reported as following : Menopon gallinae (88.3%). Menacanthus pallidulus (4.7%), Lipeurus caponis (82.7%), Goniocotes gallinae (7%), Goniodes dissimilis (7.2%), Echidnophaga gallinacea (7.4%), Xenopsylla cheopis (0.5%), Ornithonyssus bursa (22.8%), Knemidocoptes gallinae (0.2%) and Pterolichus obtusus (54.7%). Menopon gallinae and Lipeurus caponis were common ectoparasitic lice and Pterolichus obtusus was the common feather mites of bantams. In addition, character of infestation of these ectoparasites was also studied.
