Abstract

The experiment was aimed at studying for antibiosis resistance to pod borer in three soybean lines, viz. SJ4 (susceptible variety), SJ4 X G2105 F2-7-7-127 (breeding line) and G2105 (resistant line). The first instar of Heliothis armigera larvae were fed on mature leaves, inflorescences and young pods of three soybean lines in the laboratory. The larval and pupal weight after feeding on mature leaves were significantly different. The weights of those fed on mature leaves of SJ4 X G2105 F2-7-7-127 were higher than those fed on G2105, but lower than those on SJ4. The greatest larval mortality was observed after feeding on mature leaves, inflorescences and young pods of G2105. Less mortality rate was found after feeding on SJ4 X G2105 F2-7-7-127 and on SJ4, respectively.
