Abstract

Durian sizing machine consists of chain conveyer, 32 durian holders (made of 3/8* circular steel shaft, 24 cm. wide by 55 cm. high), guide (made of 1/18* x 9/18* flat steel rod), locally-made electric weigher of 0-10 kg. range, microprocessor #8751 – control unit, sizing lamps and electronic sensors. Performance test based upon the standard given by Horticultural Research Institute, Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives resulted that the machine could well size the Chanee durian fruits with 17% error at the capacity of 1.35 ton/hr. while manual sizing was achieved at 43.3% error. Mechanical damage of durian was not found due to the sizing machine. Economic analysis indicated that the operating cost of the sizing machine is 1.43 baht/fruit when operating 8 hours a day, 20 days/year. Such cost would become 0.61 baht/fruit if the machine was operated upto 60 days/year.
