Abstract

This research is to develop the fruit ripening room of higher efficiency. The size of the room is 2.0 x 2.0 x 2.0 metre. The room is equipped with cooling system of 16,500 Btu, humidifier’s system by mean of evaporation, inlet gas port, room wall which was insulated with 3 inches thick foam and sealed to prevent cooling air and gases leakage. Results of performance test showed that the ripening room could (A) maintain the room temperature in the range of 15-30 degree C quite well (with the accuracy of 1.5 degree C) (B) well control the relative humidity (average 100% RH or below) with minimum gases leakage (1.7 ml/min). Furthermore, the bananas were ripened to optimum quality by the developed room.
