Abstract

The germination of Pennisetum setosum seeds was studied under light and dark conditions, at various temperatures ranging from 15 to 45oC, osmotic potential ranged from 0 to -10 bars, soil moisture contents ranged from 0 to 35% (w/w), and pH ranged from 4 to 7. The results showed that at constant temperature of 35oC, seed germination was not different under light and dark condition. Seeds could germinate only at the temperatures ranged from 20 to 40oC. At 20, 30 and 35 oC, seeds germinated without any difference. In the moisture stress condition, seeds could germinate only at the osmotic potential of 0 to -6 bars. The optimum conditions for germination were at 35 oC, osmotic potential of 0 bars, 15% (w/w) soil moisture content and pH 6.
