Abstract

A study on the effectiveness of sucrose and 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate (8-HQS) in holding solution for “Lea” cut gerbera was conducted. The single ingredient of either 3% and 5% sucrose or 100 and 200 ppm was ineffective for vase-life extension when compared with the deionized water. The combination of 200 ppm 8-HQS and either 3% or 5% sucrose delayed the loss of freshness and led to the longest vase-life; however, the Solution with 3% sucrose showed less turbidity. All treatment had no effect on an average water consumption.
