Comparison of Holding Solutions in Prolonging Vase Life of Dendrobium Youppadeewan

Abstract

The comparison of various holding solutions in prolonging were life of Dendrobium Youppadeewan flowers was studied. Cut orchid flowers were held in distilled water, Cornell, Cornell, modification, Davis, Kagawa and Washington solutions. The results showed that the vase life of cut orchid flowers was 11.2, 58.5, 35.0, 7.8, 31.2 and 22.3 days respectively. When orchid flowers held in Cornell solution for 1,2,4,24, 48 and 72 hours before transferring to distilled water, their vase life was not significantly extended. If any components in Cornell solution was missing the extension of vase life of cut orchid flowers was not effective.
