Childhood asthma is a chronic disease that requires continuous care to prevent severe symptoms or asthma attacks. Therefore, caregivers play an important role in family management for children with asthma. This quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest design aimed to examine the effects of a self-efficacy and social support enhancement program on family management behaviors among caregivers of children aged 1–5 years with asthma. The sample consisted of 48 caregivers of children with asthma aged 1-5 years who were diagnosed with asthma at a secondary hospital in the upper northern region of Thailand. Participants were divided into an experimental and a control group of 24 people each. The data collection period was from August to October 2025. The research instruments included the self-efficacy enhancement and social support
promoting program and a family management behavior questionnaire for children with asthma. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test.
Results revealed that family management among caregivers in the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group (t = -8.30, p = .000) and significantly higher than before attending the program (t = 21.98, p = .000). The results revealed an effect size of 1.69.
These findings suggest that the self-efficacy and social support enhancement program may help improve family management behaviors among caregivers of children with asthma. Therefore, the program may be considered for integration into nursing care to support caregivers in managing children with asthma.
