Ethics in Human Research and Research Involving Human Participants

At present, research studies and experiments involving human participants have contributed significantly to advances in medical science. Such research provides knowledge and understanding of epidemiology, disease occurrence, pathophysiology, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. It also serves to establish the efficacy and safety of medicines, interventions, and other methods, thereby contributing to the advancement of diagnostic, preventive, therapeutic, and healthcare practices.

Although certain research procedures may be considered to pose minimal physical risks to research participants, they may nevertheless cause potential harm to participants’ psychological well-being, social status, financial circumstances, employment, or legal standing.

Research involving human participants should adhere to internationally recognized research ethics principles and fundamental ethical standards to ensure that research participants are appropriately protected. Research conducted in accordance with fundamental ethical principles should be based on the following three core principles:

  1. Respect for Persons
  2. Beneficence and Non-maleficence
  3. Justice

Therefore, researchers should give due consideration to ethical requirements for research involving human participants in the manuscripts submitted for publication, in order to ensure appropriate ethical compliance, enhance confidence in the research, and strengthen its credibility.

Please provide the Human Research Ethics Approval Number (IRB/Ethics Approval No.) in the Methods section describing the experimental procedures.

    Health Science, Science and Technology Reviews, a journal published by the University of Phayao, has been continuously published since 2008 in accordance with national journal quality standards and is indexed in the Thai Journal Citation Index (TCI). The journal has previously been published in print format under ISSN 2985-153X (Print).

    The journal hereby notifies the discontinuation of its print publication and will be published exclusively in electronic format (E-Journal) thereafter. Accordingly, the Print ISSN will be discontinued effective from Volume 18, Issue 1 (January–April 2025) onward.

    Therefore, researchers should consider the ethics of human research in articles submitted for publication to enhance confidence and credibility.
