บทคัดย่อ

After not less than sixty years of her first reading of Marie Corelli ’s novels, the writer of this article and also the translator of her A Romance of Two Worlds still finds her works relevant to the world today. The Romance was Corelli ’s first book, published in 1886 when she was only thirty-one, yet it found her already tackling the problems of materialism, industrial revolution, and positivism, and especially of art, music, love and spiritual existence, metaphysics and rationalism. Through her God-man mentor, she studied “ many subjects ” which gave her both intellectual and mystical approaches to the Divine. Although she analysed herself later that at that time her mind was still “ unformed ” and “ immature”, the Romance has nevertheless made quite an impact on those who feel the thirst for a point of departure to transcendence.
