Development of operations Management to Reduce For Obeses People in Community Nong Sang Sub-District, Wapi Prathum District, Mahasarakham Province

Abstract

This action research aimed to develop the community model to prevent obesity in Nong-Saeng sub – district, Wapi-Pathum sub-district, Mahasarakham province. The Action Research techniques composed 4 steps: : Plan, Action, Observation and Reflection. The participants were 18 leaders from in the community and, 34 people with obesity from the community.

            The data was summaried and analysed by using the form of frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics or paired t-test and content analysis. The process of developing this system consisted of 9 steps, :1) Studying the problems and the context, 2) Participation workshops, 3) Action plan formulation, 4) Taking actions based on the action plan by organising obesity awareness training, establishing an exercise club, establishing friends help friends group and creating the self - planting organic vetgetable group,5) Observing the participation of all the participants, reviewing and providing support,6) Evaluating the participation,7) Assessing the knowledge of the way people with obesity treat themselves., 8) Analyzing problems and barriers, 9) Creating discussion forum in order to shares ideas.

            The result showed that mean score of knowledge about obesity, self-efficacy for reducing obesity, practices to reduce obesity on food consumption, excercise and relaxation, proper weight control and participation in the implementation of the scheme statistically increased compared with the mean score before the operation significant statistically (p-value < 0.05).

            In conclusion, this action created the best practice in the community for obesity control. One of the main sucsess factors was the leader of the community who had strong influence to persuade obese people  to come and participate in all activites and look forward to proper implementation.
