Abstract

This study was quasi-experimental research using one-group pretest-posttest design. The purposes of this research were to 1) develop the application for breast cancer prevention knowledge for Thai women, 2) compare levels of knowledge on breast cancer prevention before and after using the application, and 3) investigate satisfaction with the application after using the application. The subjects consisted of 25 Thai women who visited Nonnoi sub-district health promoting hospital, Bung Wai sub-district, Warin Chamrap district, Ubon Ratchathani province. The subjects were recruited according to the inclusion criteria using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used for experimentation was the breast cancer prevention application. The instruments used for data collection were the demographic data form, the breast cancer prevention knowledge questionnaire, and the application satisfaction questionnaire. The two questionnaires had reliability coefficients of .77 and .97, respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired t-test. The results revealed that 1) The easy and convenient to use application which was developed as 2D animation photo format could be effectively used to deliver knowledge and practical strategies to prevent breast cancer among Thai women, 2) The mean score of knowledge on breast cancer prevention of the subjects after using the application was significantly higher than before using the application (p<.01) and 3) The overall mean score of satisfaction with application of the subjects was at the highest level (x = 4.60, SD = 0.50). Therefore, the application can be applied by health care professionals to Thai women to increase their knowledge on breast cancer prevention.
