Abstract

Study on the costs and operation was carried out in bamboo forest at Kanchanaburi provinced.

Study on the harvesting and operation costs for bamboo was carried out in bamboo forest in Kanchanaburi. The results showed that harvesting costs depend on the size of bamboo.  Selection cutting is used because each species has special uses. This means specific species and valuable stem sizes are cut: small stems of Thyrostachys siamensis are used for pulp and paper, and other species are used for cotainers or bambooware.

The bamboo is never managed silviculturally. The traditional method of subjective selection cutting is used for convenience of operations and marketing. Because of this the bamboo is gradually being destroyed. If the forest is not managed under goverment control it will become diminished and depleted.
