Effects of Crab Shell Supplementation in Layer Diet on Performance and Egg Quality
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed was to investigate the appropriate percentage of crab shell supplementation in layer diet on performance and egg quality and feed cost. The experimental design was a completely randomized design (CRD). One hundred and twenty 31-week-old laying hens were assigned to four treatment diets, including 0, 3, 6, and 9% crab shell. Each treatment had three replicates with ten hens. The results showed that hen-day production, feed intake, feed efficiency, egg mass, and egg weight were not significantly different (P>0.05). The egg quality, shell thickness, eggshell strength, shell weight, yolk weight, albumen weight, and haugh unit were also not significantly different (P>0.05). However, the supplementation of crab shell was significantly different in yolk color (P<0.01). Therefore, the layer diet with 9% crab shell could improve yolk color.
