Factors Associated with Depression in People with Hearing Disabilities

บทคัดย่อ

The objective of this research was to study the factors associated with depression of the people with hearing disabilities in Thailand. It was a cross-sectional descriptive study by a quantitative research with a survey research technic approach. Patient Health Questionnaire was used to collect data via on lining. Three hundred and ten people with hearing disabilities were purposively selected as the sample. Patient Health Questionnaire and Factors Associated with Depression Questionnaire were used to collect data. Univariate analysis, multiple variable analysis and Multiple Logistic Regression were used for data analysis. It was found that four factors associated with depression of the people with hearing disabilities were as follows: 1) On the Physical dimension, the presence of family members suffering from chronic diseases was significantly associated with depression of the people with hearing disabilities (p =0.016). 2) On the Psychological dimension, current learning/work gratification, relationships with their close people, and past problems complex were significantly associated with depression (in) of the people with hearing disabilities (p = 0.007, 0.000, and 0.029, respectively. 3) On the Social dimension, the pandemic of COVID-19, political and economic situations were significantly associated with depression of the people with hearing disabilities (p = 0.024, 0.000, and 0.001 respectively). 4) To get access to facilities were also found significantly associated with depression in people with hearing disabilities, like in accessing to counseling and to sign language interpretation services (p = 0.018 and 0.025, respectively).
