Antimicrobial Efficacy of Oral and Respiratory Pathogenic Microorganisms of Ripe Wild Olive Fruit Extract and the effect of the extract on some antiseptics
Main Article Content
Abstract
Drug resistance of pathogenic microorganisms of the oral cavity and respiratory tract. This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial activity of extracts from ripe wild olive fruit against pathogenic microorganisms of the oral cavity and respiratory tract and the effect of the extracts on oral disinfectants. HRIT70ET, HRIT95ET, and HRIPO60C70AC samples were tested for their inhibitory activity against oral cavity pathogens and the respiratory tract. The results showed that the three extracts could not inhibit the growth of C. albicans and H. influenza. However, HRIT70ET extract inhibited the growth of S. mutans ATCC 25175 at concentrations greater than 3.0 mg/ml. Furthermore, HRIT70ET exhibited the decreasing potential of chlorhexidine effect due to HRIT70ET being unusable to formulate in products with chlorhexidine as the active ingredient.
