Reproductive performance of Khaolak black bone chicken, Trang province
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this present study was to investigate reproductive performance of Khaolak black bone chicken, Trang province. Semen was collected twice a week from 10 Khaolak black bone cockerels (8 months) for evaluation in terms of volume and quality. Egg production and egg weight for a period of 1 year from 45 Khaolak black bone hens (5 months) were recorded. The fertility test was determined by artificial insemination. The study of egg weight loss during hatching which eggs were divided into 3 experiment groups in the following : firstly; 46-50 g; secondly; 51-55 g, and lastly; 51-55 g. Results for cockerels found that the average of semen volume, sperm concentrate, and semen volume were 329.75±69.01 µl/bird, 4,158.06±225.13x106 spz/ml and 92.21±2.72 %, respectively. This semen was inseminated into 12-28 hens. The fertility rate was 89.82±4.08 %. The Khaolak black bone hens were laying eggs at 178.84±23.14 days. The results from one year laying period revealed that total egg production was 126.13±15.02 eggs/bird, while the average egg weight was 61.59±8.09 g. Egg of group 3 had egg weight loss during storage (p < 0.05) and hatching (p < 0.01) lower than the other groups. However, the percentage of chick weight of group 3 and group 2 were high (p < 0.05). This research suggested that the reproductive performance of Khaolak black bone chicken could be improved breeding and production.
