Growth performance and carcass quality in Srivijaya chicken and Srivijaya crossbred chicken

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to study the growth performance and carcass composition of Naked Neck Chickens and Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds, the experimental design was randomized complete block in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). Mixed gender chicks (Naked Neck Chickens and Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds), hybrids of 75:25 and 50:50 pedigree levels (60 chicks per breed), total 180 chicks (1 day old), divided into 3 groups of 4 each, 15 repetitions. The studies were divided into 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 weeks diets with 21 19 17 and 15 percent protein levels. The results show that Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds hybrids at 50:50 pedigree, had high body weight gain (P<0.01). In terms of cost of 1 kg chicken production Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds at 50:50 pedigree level were lower (P<0.01). Naked Neck Chickens 100:0 are no different from Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds at 75:20 pedigree. Carcass quality and carcass composition of Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds at 50:50 blood level showed a percentage of breast, loin, visceral fat (P<0.01) tenderloin and hips (P<0.05) were higher than Naked Neck Chickens (100:0) and Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds (75:25). The Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds at the pedigree level of 50:50 had a higher percentage of calves (P<0.05) than Naked Neck Chickens, but were not different from the Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds (75:25). Naked Neck Chickens (100:0) has a tendency to lose more water during cooking than Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds (75:25 and 50:50). The lightness values (L*) of all chicken groups were similar. The meat of Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds (75:25 and 50:50) had redness values (a*) better than Naked Neck Chickens (100:0). While Naked Neck Chickens are 100:0 for yellowness (b*) more than the Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds (75:25 and 50:50). The 50:50 Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds had the moisture content of the Naked Neck Chickens and Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds. They were similar in the range of 65.12 -73.39%. The amount of fat inserted in the 50:50 Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds was approximately 2 times that of the 75:25 Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds and 100:0 Naked Neck Chicken, respectively. The protein content of the Naked Neck Chickens and Srivijaya Naked Neck Crossbreeds 75:25 and 50:50 had similar protein content. The dietary fiber content in all trials was similar, as was the ash content found between 1.11-1.52 percent.
