The Seismic Assessment of the Anulukthai Commercial Building

Abstract
The objective of this paper was to perform a seismic assessment of the 4 story Anulukthai commercial building of Thailand using the DPT Standard of the assessment and retrofit of building structures in earthquake-prone areas (DPT. 1303-2014). The building structure was assumed to be located in Muang Chiang Mai Province and High-Risk Area, Moderate Risk Area, and Risk Area. They were simulated by a 3D model. The model was analyzed by nonlinear pushover analysis and nonlinear time history analysis. The nonlinear time history analysis was applied using nine earthquake ground motion records. In the nonlinear pushover analysis, the results revealed that the structure’s performance level was at the life safety level in the transverse direction and the immediate occupancy level in the longitudinal direction. When considering the story damage, it was found the 4th floor of the transverse direction inter-story drift ratio was higher than the value allowed by the DPT. 1303-2014. In fact, the columns at the 3rd floor along with the columns and some beams of the 2nd floor had local member damages. As for the longitudinal direction, it was found that the inter-story damage ratio complied with the life safety level. The results of the time history analysis showed the damage was less than the nonlinear pushover analysis. Moreover, there were only ground motion records that resulted in story damages on the 2nd and 3rd floors, as well as some beam damage on the 2nd floor. The analysis also showed that the structure's performance level in the immediate occupancy level and inter-story drift ratio was in accordance with the standard criteria. Overall, the seismic assessment of the Anulukthai commercial building by both methods met the life safety level with most damage occurring on the 3rd floor.
