Effects of Land Use on Water Quality in Samrong Canal, Samut Prakan Province.

Abstract

The objective of this research aimed to study the land use affecting the water quality and to analyse chemical and biological water quality of Samrong Canal, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province which related to the land use. According to the land use maps in 2007, 2011 and 2015, land use was classified into 4 categories; community and building area, agricultural area, water area and miscellaneous area. The results showed that 1) community and building areas and water areas Increased by 10.26% and 1.20% respectively, 2) the agricultural area and miscellaneous areas decreased 8.98% and 2.47%, respectively. The changes in land use affected on water quality of Samrong Canal, In general, the water quality was bad, especially in dry season, with water quality index score of 36. The critical parameter was the amount of Dissolved Oxygen and Biochemical Oxygen Demand. The water quality of Samrong Canal was in category 5 base on water quality standard for surface water.
