Abstract

           This study was a cross-sectional descriptive research aimed at studying the safety behavior, safety knowledge along with the relationship among safety knowledge and safety behavior of garbage collectors in Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality, Ubon Ratchathani province. The questionnaire was used as a tool to collect information on safety behavior and safety knowledge of population (109 persons).


          The results showed that the safety behavior of garbage collectors in Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality, Ubon Ratchathani province had good level of safety behavior  91.7% found that most workers had unsafe behaviors to wear protective eyeglasses 26.7%,  wear slippers before work 18.3% and some employees also behave inappropriately at times, and never practice at the end of their work, such as putting a gag off their nose to clean or discard after work ends 8.3%. For knowledge about safety in the work of garbage collection staff. Overall, it was at a good level of 78.0 %. Employees know that wearing a nose cloth during work reduces the chance of getting infected And when it was sharp while working. The best way to do this is to clean up the wounds immediately by 99.1 % with minimal knowledge while working. Can avoid injury. Because of the 31.2%. The level of knowledge about occupational safety was correlated with the level of occupational safety behaviors of solid waste collectors (p-value = 0.024).


Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality  and related agencies should encourage employees to keep solid waste in compliance with safety regulations. The training is provided to educate and revitalize knowledge about work safety principles. To raise awareness and change working behavior. Also, additional personal protective equipment should be promoted and supported.
