The Study of Usage of Heated Gloves from Green Bean for Cold Worker Exposure in Ice Factory

Abstract

This research aimed to study the period of time for baking mung bean gloves to attain a temperature of 40 - 45 degrees Celsius. Study of Usage of Heated Gloves from Green Bean and study the relationship between opinions towards the use of heated mung bean gloves with age, length of exposure to cold, and work experience for workers cold exposed temperatures of - 1 to - 30 degrees Celsius for prolonged periods of time in an ice factory. The method for the experiment was to take gloves packed with 500 grams of mung beans and bake them at 800 watts of heat by microwave for a given period of time. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the opinions towards using heated mung bean gloves, from the sample group that volunteered to use the gloves, consisting of males whose activities included lifting, pushing and shoving ice blocks by hand, with 1 year upwards of experience. The statistics used are averages, percentages, standard deviation, Repeated Measures ANOVA, Simple Test and Pearson‘s Correlation Coefficient.

The results indicated that the optimal time for baking the gloves were 2 minutes at 800 watts. The sample group volunteering to use the gloves consisted of 27 males. The highest-level opinions towards using heated mung bean gloves were for the temperature while wearing and usage and maintenance, with an average value of 4.67 and it was also found that the least satisfactory level of opinion were for appearance and size, with an average value of 3.37. For the relationship between the level of opinion towards the heated gloves with age, length of exposure to cold, and work experience, it was found that age and work experience have a positive relationship with the level of opinion towards using heated mung bean gloves, with a statistical significance of < 0.001. The recommendations for gloves were appropriate in creating a good feeling for the workers. However, the appearance and the size of the gloves should be further developed to be appropriate for usage by workers. Including, always give a knowledge about hazard of long time to cold exposure and good practices for work. However, to achieve performance accord with the usage of Heated Gloves from Green Bean to continuously.
