Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the factors related to the caring competency for older people among the village health volunteers (VHVs). The participants consisted of 397 VHVs aged between 19 and 60 years old. Data were collected with questionnaires, and analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Chi square and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The participants had the moderate level score of caring competency. The analysis reveals a significant relationship in terms of statistics between the elderly’s perception of healthcare policy, the years of experience among the VHVs, access to information, the support from family and other state officers and the caring competency of older people.  It is recommended that the number of the targeted groups in the VHV training need to be increased so that the caring competency be enhanced and the channels for communication be effective.  Indeed, the healthcare policy for the elderly will encourage the participation of the VHVs’ families. This further helps contribute to the service in their own community.
