Species Diversity of Mushrooms in Ecotourism Area at Pha Hin Ngam National Park, Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

Pha Hin Ngam National Park is one of the important ecotourism destinations of Thailand. Every year during the rainy season, Krachiew (Curcuma sessilis Gage.) and Pathumma (Curcuma alismatifolia Gagnep.) bloom, attracting a large number of tourists to visit this place. Since the topography and the climate of Pha Hin Ngam National Park is suitable for the growth of mushrooms, this area has species diversity of mushrooms. This research aimed to survey species diversity of mushrooms during the rainy season in Pha Hin Ngam National Park having many types of forests including dry dipterocarp, dry evergreen, mixed deciduous and secondary forests. Mushrooms were surveyed and collected along the nature trails and villagers' mushroom foraging routes. Forty six species of mushrooms were found belonging to 15 families and 26 genera. Most of them were edible mushrooms but poisonous mushrooms, medicinal mushrooms and saprophytic mushrooms were also found. A majority of mushrooms were in the families Amanitaceae and Boletaceae and found in dry evergreen forest. The biodiversity of mushrooms reflects the abundant nature of Pha Hin Ngam National Park which can contribute to the promotion of ecotourism.
