Karyotypic Study of Taylor’s Stream Frog (Limnonectes taylori) in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Abstract
This study analyzed the karyotype and idiogram of Taylor’s stream frog (Limnonectes taylori) in Northern Thailand. Frogs were collected from Chiang Mai Province. The mitotic chromosome preparation was obtained by direct method from bone marrow. Chromosomes were stained by conventional staining technique that was applied for examine diploid number, shape and size by staining with 20% Giemsa solution. The result showed that the diploid number (2n) of Limnonectes taylori was 22, the fundamental number (NF) was 44 both male and female. The type of chromosomes were 10 large metacentric, 4 medium metacentric and 8 small metacentric. No cytologically distinguishable sex chromosome was observed. The karyotype formula is as follows: 2n (22) = Lm10+Mm4+Sm8.
