Abstract

Actinomycetes BBUU157 isolated from vermicast of earthworms was identified in the genus level by using 16S rRNA gene. The results showed the similarity with Streptomyces. Then, it was tested the growth under NaCl addition, production of plant growth-promoting agents, and tested against antibacterial and antifungal activities. It could grow at 7% NaCl (w/v) and grow well in 1,000 mM NaCl solution with a dry cell weight of 65.70 mg/ml. There was no production of auxin hormones but produced maximum siderophore in the concentration without NaCl. The orange zone measured was 4.70 centimeters. It produced maximum ACC deaminase at 72 hours in concentration without NaCl. It showed the results of antagonistic actinomycetes activity against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus and Penicillium sp. The results of this study, Actinomycetes isolate BBUU157 can be used to promote plant growth under saline condition and protect plants from phyto-pathogenic microorganisms.
