📢  Announcement: Update of Ethical Guidelines on the Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

The Thai Journal of Agricultural Science (TJAS) announces an update to its Ethical Guidelines for Authors Utilizing AI in Manuscript Preparation, effective immediately for all new submissions and revised manuscripts.

In response to the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific writing, TJAS reinforces its commitment to academic integrity, transparency, and reliability of published research.

Key Principles of the Updated Guidelines

Authors must ensure:

  • Transparency: All use of AI tools must be clearly disclosed, including the type of tool and its role (e.g., language editing, drafting, or data analysis).
  • Accountability: Authors are fully responsible for all content. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and all AI-assisted outputs must be critically reviewed and validated.
  • Originality and Proper Attribution: Manuscripts must be original, with accurate and appropriate citation of all sources.
  • Scientific Integrity: All data, interpretations, and conclusions must be accurate, evidence-based, and consistent with primary sources.

Zero Tolerance for AI Hallucinations

TJAS enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy on AI hallucinations, defined as fabricated, misleading, or unverifiable information presented as factual.

This includes:

  • Non-existent or fabricated references (e.g., fake authors, journals, DOIs)
  • Misleading or incorrect citation of real studies
  • Invented data, results, or methodologies
  • Distorted summaries of scientific literature

Authors must ensure that all references are real, traceable, and accurately represented.

Failure to comply will be considered serious ethical misconduct and may result in immediate rejection or further editorial action.

Ethical and Professional Responsibilities

Authors are also required to:

  • Address ethical considerations in AI use (e.g., bias, data privacy, fairness)
  • Comply with TJAS policies and international standards (e.g., COPE, ICMJE)
  • Maintain integrity during peer review
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest and AI-related support

Final Statement

While AI tools can support research and writing efficiency, scientific integrity cannot be delegated to AI. Authors must ensure that all AI-assisted content is accurate, verifiable, and ethically sound.

TJAS remains committed to publishing high-quality, credible, and trustworthy scientific research.
