Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Maejo Journal of Agricultural Production

Maejo Journal of Agricultural Production (mJAP) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Generative AI, in supporting research activities and the dissemination of scholarly work. However, mJAP strictly prohibits the use of AI in ways that compromise research integrity. This includes, but is not limited to, the fabrication or falsification of research data, manipulation of research results, generation of non-existent references, creation of fabricated analyses, or production of images, tables, or any content that misrepresents facts or lacks verifiable sources. mJAP does not permit authors to use AI to generate entire manuscripts without substantial intellectual contribution from the authors. Furthermore, AI tools must not be credited as authors, corresponding authors, or co-authors. If such misconduct is detected, mJAP reserves the right to reject the manuscript immediately or retract the published article if the issue is identified post-publication.

mJAP hereby establishes this policy on the use of AI in manuscript preparation to uphold ethical standards among authors, peer reviewers, editors, and editorial staff involved in the publication process.

Guidelines for Authors on the Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors may use AI tools to assist with language editing, grammar checking, stylistic improvement, translation, outlining manuscripts, summarizing relevant literature, or developing computer programs or analytical code. Authors may also use AI to generate graphs or visualizations from authentic data. However, authors must ensure that all outputs are carefully reviewed and verified prior to submission.

The use of AI must not violate copyright, intellectual property rights, or the rights of others. Authors are responsible for verifying that all references cited in the manuscript genuinely exist and are formatted according to the mJAP’s guidelines. Any ethical issues arising from the use of AI remain the sole responsibility of the authors.

At the time of submission, authors are required to disclose the use of AI in the designated Disclosure Form provided by mJAP. The disclosure must specify the AI tool used, including its model and version, as well as the purpose of its use (e.g., language editing or translation). Failure to disclose such information, or providing false or misleading information, may result in manuscript rejection or retraction if discovered after publication.

Guidelines for Peer Reviewers on the Use of AI in the Review Process

Peer reviewers may use AI tools to improve the clarity, organization, and language of their review reports. However, reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any confidential material into publicly accessible AI systems under any circumstances. AI must not be used to read, analyze, or make evaluative judgments in place of the reviewer’s own expertise.

Guidelines for Editors and Editorial Staff on the Use of AI in the Manuscript Consideration Process

Editors and editorial staff may use AI tools to assist with language checking, formatting, or preliminary screening for publication ethics concerns. However, they must not upload manuscript files or confidential data to publicly accessible AI systems. Furthermore, AI must not be used to make editorial decisions, which must remain the responsibility of qualified human editors.

Policy Updates and Enforcement

The Maejo Journal of Agricultural Production reserves the right to revise this policy as appropriate. mJAP may request additional information from authors to ensure transparency and accuracy in the use of AI during manuscript preparation.

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted for consideration starting from 1 August 2026.
