ข้าววัชพืชมาจากไหน

บทคัดย่อ
ข้าววัชพืชเป็นที่รู้จักมานานในประเทศไทย ในชื่อ “ข้าวแดง” จากพื้นที่นาน้ำลึก แต่เหตุใดจึงมีการระบาดในพื้นที่นาทั่วประเทศเพียงในคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 21 บทความปริทัศน์นี้ทำการวิเคราะห์ต้นเหตุโดยรวมที่ได้ส่งผลให้ข้าววัชพืชได้ระบาดแพร่หลายฉับพลันทั่วไปในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ โดยเริ่มด้วยการเรียงลำดับเวลาที่มีการบันทึกหลักฐานการพบข้าววัชพืชและการแพร่กระจายของเทคโนโลยีการทำนาสมัยใหม่ จากนั้นจึงนำเสนอหลักฐานบ่งชี้ถึงปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางพันธุกรรมระหว่างข้าวปลูก ข้าวป่า และข้าววัชพืช พร้อมทั้งวิเคราะห์บทบาทของความไม่ไวต่อช่วงแสงจากข้าวพันธุ์สมัยใหม่ที่ถูกถ่ายทอดเข้าสู่แหล่งพันธุกรรมร่วมของข้าวในท้องถิ่น ต่อไปจึงทบทวนอิทธิพลของกรรมวิธีการจัดการในการทำนาสมัยใหม่ต่อความสามารถในการแข่งขัน การปรับตัว และการแพร่กระจายของข้าววัชพืช และประเมินผลกระทบของข้าววัชพืชต่อการผลิตข้าว ผลการวิเคราะห์ชี้ว่า ข้าววัชพืชน่าจะเป็นพืชประจำถิ่นของพื้นที่นาน้ำลึกในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้มาแต่เดิม การระบาดแพร่กระจายออกไปทั่วภูมิภาคเกิดขึ้นจากการไหลของยีนลักษณะไม่ไวต่อช่วงแสงจากข้าวพันธุ์สมัยใหม่เข้าสู่ประชากรข้าววัชพืชเป็นหลัก ส่งผลให้ช่วงแสงเฉพาะถิ่นไม่มีอิทธิพลต่อการสืบพันธุ์ของข้าววัชพืชอีกต่อไป และทำให้ข้าววัชพืชสามารถปรับตัวเข้าสู่พื้นที่นาชลประทานและนาน้ำฝนได้อย่างกว้างขวาง และมีโอกาสผสมข้ามกับข้าวปลูกในพื้นที่เพิ่มขึ้น ขณะเดียวกัน สภาพแวดล้อมในนาข้าวที่เอื้อต่อความได้เปรียบของข้าววัชพืช เป็นผลพวงจากกรรมวิธีการเพาะปลูกภายใต้เทคโนโลยีการทำนาสมัยใหม่ ที่แม้นำมาซึ่งประโยชน์ทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคมต่อภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ แต่ก็ได้ก่อให้เกิดผลกระทบโดยไม่คาดคิดต่อการผลิตข้าวจากการระบาดลงนาของข้าววัชพืช การควบคุมข้าววัชพืชจำเป็นต้องตั้งอยู่บนความเข้าใจอย่างรอบด้านถึงกลไกที่ขับเคลื่อนการระบาดและการแพร่กระจายของข้าววัชพืช
