Abstract

The studies of boron retaining and releasing of sandy loam soil (Renu soil series) and factors influencing the processes were conducted. The soil was collected from Mae Hea Agricultural Research Training Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University. The results indicated that the boron sorption isotherm of this soil followed the Langmuir equation only on the range of 1-30 ug of added boron/g of soil However, the isotherm was fitted with the Freundlich equation in all ranges of addd boron studies. Moreover, the boron sorption and desorption of this soil showed hysteresis characteristic.

The preadded phosphorus to soil in order to fill the retention sites of soil minimized the retention of applied boron to the soil. The effects of the increase in moisture, temperature, and soil pH were found to increase the boron retention by the soil. However, there was no significant effect on boron retention at low moisture levels. The recommended treatments from interactions between and among factors influencing soil boron retention of this experiment are also suggested.
